Rosemary Garlic Biscuits

Slathered in fresh butter or soaking up excess gravy, these rosemary garlic biscuits are a staple at family gatherings and dinners.

Recipe

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour + extra to dust the counter

  • 2 Tbsp sugar

  • 3 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt + coarse salt to garnish

  • 1/4 lb of butter or lard (such as tenderflake)

  • 2 eggs

  • 3/4 cup milk

  • 2 cloves garlic minced fine and rubbed

  • 1 sprig rosemary finely minced

Instructions:

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl.

  2. Add the minced herbs and garlic.

  3. Crumble in the cold butter as if you are making pie dough.

  4. Make a well in the middle of the mix and add the eggs and milk. Slowly stir in the flour until everything is evenly mixed.

  5. Knead the rough dough on a floured counter top for 15 minutes until smooth.

  6. Roll out the dough until it is about an inch or more thick.

  7. Punch out individual biscuits with a ring mold or appropriate mold.

  8. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

  9. Bake at 375F for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.

What is a biscuit

biscuit

 noun

bis·cuit | \ ˈbi-skət  \

plural biscuits also biscuit

A biscuit is a flour-based baked food product.

In the United States and some parts of English Canada, a "biscuit" is a quick bread, somewhat similar to a scone, and usually unsweetened. Leavening is achieved through the use of baking powder or, when using buttermilk, baking soda. Biscuits are usually referred to as either "baking powder biscuits" or "buttermilk biscuits" if buttermilk is used rather than milk as a liquid.
